Of all the ways to make a door more secure, a well-fitted deadbolt gives you the most for the least. But the hardware is only half of it — a beautiful lock does nothing if the door is out of alignment and the bolt only travels halfway into the frame. We handle both the lock and the fit, which is what actually keeps a door shut.

Deadbolt installation & upgrades

We install single- and double-cylinder deadbolts, from solid mid-grade options to higher-security cylinders, and we’ll explain the trade-offs so you choose with open eyes. On older Pasadena homes we take care to bore cleanly and match the hardware to the door’s character; on newer doors we make sure the new bolt lines up with the existing prep.

Strike plates & alignment

The strike plate — the metal piece the bolt lands in — is where a lot of doors quietly fail. A short screw or a misaligned strike means the bolt never fully seats. We install reinforced strikes with long screws that reach the framing and adjust the alignment so the deadbolt throws all the way with a satisfying, solid feel.

Handlesets & entry sets

Matching handlesets and entry hardware pull a front door together and give you a grip that lasts. We fit and align them so the latch and deadbolt work as one smooth motion rather than two stubborn ones.

Smart locks & keyless entry

If you’d like to leave keys behind, we install smart deadbolts and keyless entry pads, seat them correctly on the door, and walk you through the setup before we go. We’ll also give you a frank opinion on which style suits your door and your household rather than just fitting whatever’s trendy.

What good hardware buys you

  • A bolt that seats fully into the framing, not just the jamb
  • Reinforced strikes that resist a shove at the door
  • Latches and deadbolts that move as one clean motion
  • Hardware matched to the door’s age and finish

Good questions

Frequently asked

Will a new deadbolt fit my existing door?

Usually yes. Most doors are bored to a standard prep; when they aren’t, we can adapt. On older homes we take extra care to match the hardware and bore cleanly.

Why does my deadbolt feel stiff or only go halfway?

Almost always a strike-plate or alignment issue as the door and frame shift over time. Reinforcing and realigning the strike usually fixes it.

Can you install a smart lock I already bought?

We can fit most consumer smart deadbolts, make sure they seat properly, and help you set them up. If the model won’t suit your door, we’ll tell you before installing.

Is a double-cylinder deadbolt a good idea?

It depends on the door and local safety considerations — a double cylinder needs a key on both sides, which matters for exit in an emergency. We’ll talk through whether it’s right for your situation.
